When Am I Most Likely to Get Pregnant?

Learning when you may or may not get pregnant can be confusing. How will you know what to watch for and monitor? What resources are available to help you?

Care Net Pregnancy Center of Paradise can help you understand pregnancy and your reproductive health. Schedule a free appointment today to learn how we can help.

In the meantime, keep reading to learn how timing plays a crucial role in pregnancy.

Timing is Everything

You are most likely to get pregnant if you have sexual intercourse while ovulating. During ovulation, a mature egg is released from the ovary. It travels to the fallopian tubes, where it can be fertilized by sperm. From there, it will move to the uterus and implant in the uterine wall.

Having sexual intercourse from three to four days before ovulation to one day afterward can improve your chances of getting pregnant.

Remember, you cannot get pregnant if you do not ovulate because there is no egg for the sperm to fertilize. Additionally, knowing when you ovulate not only helps you learn what days to avoid (or have) sexual intercourse, but you can also take charge of your overall reproductive health.

Tracking Ovulation

Ovulation usually happens about 14 days before your period starts (if you have a regular 28-day menstrual cycle). However, everyone is different, and if you have irregular cycles, it can be challenging to determine when you’re ovulating.

However, several methods are available to help you track ovulation:

  • Apps that help you monitor your menstrual cycle
  • Observing physical changes (vaginal discharge and basal body temperature)
  • Home ovulation test kits (these detect hormonal changes that occur right before ovulation)

We’re here to clear up any confusion—you are our priority.
